preview day is here...thank you for coming...

like the rent parties of the great depression, i am hosting a cash raisin' sale here on artist needs cash...today!!! all items listed here will be sold at massive discounts...most will be under $20...once a week, on Friday, i will offer a truly unique piece for more...please spread the word...and check back often...and i bless you for your purchase...

why? health issues and loss of income have forced me to the edge...in an effort to establish a much-needed cash flow and save a tiny bit of my ego, i have decided to bail myself out by having a distress sale...

i am famous for saying, "i can make art out of that!!!"...if you have ever taken a walk with me you know i pick things up, carry them home, and eventually make art out of them...i also love scouring junk, thrift and antique stores (the dirtier the better) for a rare find that will enhance my next assemblage, collage or mixed media piece...like 'retablo' below...

'retablo', assemblage 2007
acrylic, cigar box, rusty gears, antique door plate, antique evening glove, original drawing

retablo (interior), assemblage 2007
rusty gears, antique door lock, metal leaves, caulk, wires, gilding
Retablos-a painting, sculpture or combination of the two, rising behind the altar of a church. Spanish retablos of the Late Middle Ages and Renaissance grew extremely large and elaborate, typically using carved and wood, and rising as high as 40 feet or more. The tradition of making them was taken to the new Spanish Empire in America. There, by the late 18th century at least, the word became used for much smaller popular religious paintings, both conventional (paintings giving thanks for protection through a specific episode). from wikipedia
i digress...over the next 6 weeks (God willing) i will be listing pieces like the ones used in the artwork above...everything from rusty parts, shells and found objects to antique stamp kits and old wooden crayon boxes...you never know what you will find...

all items are suitable for artwork or just to place in your studio to give inspiration as they did for me...i will give hints as to my intent for the use, but i greatly want for your imagination to soar as you create with them...it is with great joy i release them into the hands of artists and artisans who will create masterpieces with them...

to find the items click on the purple button under the blog banner that corresponds to your interest:
